🌄 Shkodër → Koman → Shala River → Fierzë → Valbona
Begin your epic journey in Shkodër, one of Albania’s oldest and most vibrant cities. Known for its rich history, Ottoman-era architecture, lively boulevards, and friendly locals, Shkodër is the perfect starting point to immerse yourself in Albanian culture. Departure is at 07:30 AM from Hotel Rozafa, right in the heart of the city. As you leave the urban bustle behind, the road winds through remote villages, rivers, and lush landscapes, offering a first glimpse of northern Albania’s untouched beauty.
🚤 Lake Koman – A Fjord-like Experience
After approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes of scenic driving, including a short break for refreshments, you arrive at Koman Port. Here, the adventure takes a magical turn: a 1 hour and 20-minute ferry ride across Lake Koman. Often likened to the fjords of Norway, this boat journey reveals emerald-green waters, steep cliffs, and secluded bays that feel like a secret waiting to be discovered. Every glance out the window offers a perfect photo opportunity, capturing the harmony of water, mountains, and forest.
🌊 Shala River – Nature’s Hidden Gem
Arriving at the Shala River around 10:50 AM, you step into a world that feels untouched by time. Accessible only by boat, this turquoise paradise is surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and dense greenery. Over the next 5+ hours, you can swim in icy-clear waters, lounge in hammocks, walk along riverside trails, hike forest paths, or simply soak up the serene beauty. Rustic wooden restaurants offer traditional Albanian cuisine, adding authentic flavor to this immersive experience. Every moment here invites you to disconnect, relax, and embrace nature at its finest.
⛵ Return Journey to Fierzë
At 16:00 PM, the boat departs from Shala River, heading upstream toward Fierzë Port. This calm and reflective ride offers a final opportunity to absorb the breathtaking scenery as the sun begins its descent, painting the cliffs and water with golden light. Arrival at Fierzë is around 17:40 PM, where a minibus awaits to continue the journey.
🏔️ Fierzë → Valbona – Into the Albanian Alps
The short transfer from Fierzë to Valbona takes about 45 minutes. Nestled deep in the Albanian Alps, Valbona Valley greets you with dramatic peaks, pine forests, and pristine alpine air. Arrival is around 18:45 PM, providing the perfect setting to unwind after a day full of adventure. Whether you choose to stay in a cozy guesthouse, hike the famous Valbona Pass the next morning, or simply relax and breathe in the mountain air, Valbona delivers an unforgettable alpine experience.
